The Ohio Affiliate of the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (OH-NBASLH) was founded in 2021 by a group of 5 Black speech and hearing students at The Ohio State University and is directly affiliated with our parent organization, the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing (NBASLH).
OH-NBASLH was chartered to:
- Foster a supportive environment where Black speech and hearing professionals (and aspiring professionals) can connect
- Advocate for Black individuals with communication disorders and differences
- Recruit more members of the Black community to join the field of speech and hearing sciences
- Improve the quality of speech-language and audiological services provided to members of the Black community within the greater Ohio area
- Promote and develop research initiatives that increase the body of knowledge surrounding the identification, diagnosis and treatment of Black individuals with communication sciences and disorders
Right now, our organization is raising funds to support our members' efforts to attend the 45th Annual NBASLH Convention scheduled to occur April 20-22 in Washington, D.C. The theme of this year's conference is: "Welcome Home! Connect. Re-energize. Transform. ". As our junior members prepare to apply for graduate school and/or employment, conference attendance will be viewed as important criteria for admission/acceptance. The funds raised from this campaign will go directly towards paying for one or more of the following:
- Convention registration fee ($245)
- Airfare to and from the convention
- Hotel arrangements
- Food and emergencies
