The MA-SLP program at The Ohio State University is one of the top-ranking programs in the country. To continue to improve and expand our program we have developed the following strategic plan:
1. Achieve Top 15 US World and News Ranking
Position the Master of Speech-Language Pathology program among the top 15 nationally ranked programs in U.S. News & World Report through excellence in education, research, clinical training, and professional engagement.
- a.) Enhance academic and clinical training outcomes by continuously refining curriculum and clinical experiences to reflect best practices and emerging trends in the field.
- b.) Increase faculty and student scholarly productivity through support for research, presentations, and publications in high-impact venues.
- c.) Strengthen national visibility and reputation by promoting faculty and student achievements, engaging in national leadership roles, and fostering strategic partnerships.
- d.) Leverage alumni to inform program improvement, foster community partnerships, and support development initiatives.
2. Enhance Graduate Preparation in Speech-Language Pathology
Strengthen the Master of Speech-Language Pathology curriculum to ensure graduates are prepared to meet the communication and swallowing needs of individuals from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- a.) Implement a bilingual certification pathway to prepare students to provide high-quality services to multilingual and multicultural populations.
- b.) Expand clinical education opportunities that expose students to a broad spectrum of client needs, including those from historically underserved and marginalized communities.
- c.) Integrate coursework and training that emphasize cultural humility, health disparities, and social determinants of communication and swallowing disorders.
- d.) Incorporate emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, telepractice, and digital assessment tools, into coursework and clinical experiences to enhance student learning and prepare graduates for contemporary service delivery models.
3. Foster Faculty Excellence and Innovation in Teaching, Research, and Clinical Practice
Contribute to the advancement of the field of speech-language pathology through professional development, scholarly engagement, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Our faculty will:
- a.) Encourage scholarly productivity by providing resources and incentives for research, presentations, and publications.
- b.) Promote clinical innovation by supporting faculty-led initiatives that enhance service delivery models and student learning.
- c.) Recruit and retain expert faculty representing varied areas of specialization to enrich the academic and clinical environment.
- d.) Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration within and beyond the university to expand research and clinical opportunities.
