Are you or someone you know having difficulty swallowing? This might include symptoms such as:
- Difficulty chewing
- Throat clearing or coughing with eating
- Feeling food or liquids get stuck in your throat
- Recurrent pneumonia related to aspiration (food or liquid going down into lungs)
- Weight loss or dehydration from not being able to eat/drink enough
The medical term for this is dysphagia. It can occur for a variety of reasons in adults including but not limited to:
- Head and neck cancer
- Stroke
- Neurologic conditions
- Autoimmune disorders
Children can also have difficulty feeding and swallowing related to:
- Prematurity
- Cerebral palsy
- Cleft palate
- Respiratory problems
Our clinic can provide clinical swallow screening and evaluation, referral for instrumental assessment and therapy as recommended. We currently offer services including:
- Conventional therapy with swallow and non-swallow techniques
- Surface electromyography with Mobili-T ®
- Device-driven lingual strengthening with a Tongueometer ™
- Device-driven therapy with Expiratory and Inspiratory Muscle Strength Training
- EMST 75™ & 150™ available + inspiratory adapter
