Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Non-Native English Speakers and International Students

The Master of Arts Speech-Language Pathology program has two levels of English language requirements:

  1. OSU’s Graduate School requires proof of English proficiency for international students. This is typically a TOEFL score. Students with bachelor’s degrees or higher from certain countries are exempt from this requirement, and details are available on OSUs Graduate and Professional Admissions website.
  2. The Department of Speech and Hearing Science requires all students who are not native speakers of English to demonstrate additional English proficiency before beginning clinical training. Students must take the Oral Proficiency Assessment offered by OSU’s English as a Second Language Program and score a C4 or a C5 in order to begin clinical placements.

Please contact Graduate Program Coordinator, Sarah Wendel, at wendel.13@osu.edu if you have any questions about these requirements.
