OSU Aphasia Initiative member, Amber Poindexter, and her family were invited to speak at the Center for Brain Injury Recovery & Discovery (CBIRD) Research Day on March 27th at the Blackwell Inn. Amber shared her rehabilitation journey with the support of her husband, Alvin, and two sons, Miles and Malcolm. Amber had a stroke on September 10th, 2022. As a result of her stroke, she was diagnosed with Aphasia and Apraxia of Speech. Amber started attending Aphasia Initiative group therapy sessions in the Summer of 2023 and has been a regular attendee ever since. Her husband and two sons, both OSU students, have been an integral part of her support network as she has continued to work tirelessly on regaining her speech and communication abilities. Amber’s story is one of many inspiring stories about the power of never giving up and the importance of a supportive community. We are so proud of you, Amber!
