Several department faculty and graduate students participated in the annual Ohio Speech-Language-Hearing Association (OSLHA) convention, held in Hilliard, Ohio on April 7-8. Founded in 1945, the Ohio Speech-Language-Hearing Association (OSLHA) is a professional association representing speech-language pathologists and audiologists throughout Ohio.
Nadine Whiteman, SLP Clinical Preceptor, presented information regarding developmental norms, elicitation strategies, and use of ultrasound biofeedback for the /r/ phoneme. The session was well-attended with approximately 25 people.
Nicole Wiksten joined a panel of Columbus local acute care SLPs, including Dipti Dani (Mt. Carmel/St. Ann's), Leslie McKee (Ohio Health/Grant), Emily Selio (OSUWMC), and Mechelle Motsinger (Ohio Health/Riverside). Nicole moderated discussion between the panelists on acute care practice patterns in dysphagia management which included audience questions and participation.
Erika Hagen, Nicole Viola, Jess Timog, Sophie Nichols, and Abigail Altman shared what they have learned from parents and professionals to improve the care of Ohio youth with TBI.
Ava Elliot, a senior in the undergraduate program, received the OSLHA Student Award for 2025. This award recognizes up to two undergraduate or graduate students in the field of Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology. Ava has been an outstanding undergraduate student and leader as the President of NSSLHA.
