Dr. Amy Sonntag and two 2nd-Year MA-SLP students, Quinn Baumgartner and Rachel Kickbusch, were recently featured in The Lantern, discussing their work in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).

Rachel and Quinn are recipients of the Steve's Way Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to two 2nd-Year MA-SLP students who have an interest in AAC. Each has taken a leading role in a special initiative this fall, developing resources to teach people how to utilize the enhanced AAC features coming with the release of iOS 26. Their work builds on existing iOS technology to make these powerful communication tools more accessible and easier to set up than ever.

We extend our deepest gratitude to Tom Meadows, whose generous support makes this vital scholarship possible.

The really important thing that I'm trying to help people know is that you never know when you may not be able to speak," Sonntag said. "One of my mentors, when I was really young and getting started, always said, we are all TABs, temporarily able-bodied."
