On October 22nd, Speech and Hearing Science undergraduate, Jess Timog, performed in the Pilipino Student Association’s culture night, Barrio. She was in 3 traditional Filipino performances and videos of those dances can be found below. Showcasing her culture through song and dance is one way she is fulfilling her desire to promote diversity and inclusion in the field. Jess is a senior at OSU and currently applying to dual degree programs with a research interest in the impact of cultural and language diversity on children with DLD.
The Pilipino Student Association (PSA) is a student organization on campus that promotes the inclusion and advocacy for the Filipino community here on campus and in the Columbus area. Jess’ involvement in the club for all 4 years of her college experience was the largest contributing factor for her research interest in communication sciences and disorders. She shares that being surrounded by people that have a common culture and experience as a Filipino-American has made her into the confident person she is today. She wants to bring that feeling of belonging and visibility to the speech and hearing world. If you have any questions about PSA, how to get involved, or anything else, please feel free to reach out to Jess via email Timog.1@osu.edu
