Nicole Wiksten, Clinical Assistant Professor, and board-certified specialist in swallowing and swallowing disorders, has built a relationship with Father John Stavropoulos, the very first client to be served in the new Swallow Clinic.
"John and his wife Elaine are so dedicated to his recovery and graciously allow our graduate clinicians to learn while providing his care. The Stavropoulos' always come with smiles and some coffee for him to drink in swallow therapy!"
-Nicole Wiksten
More about the Stavropoulos':
Fr. John and Elaine Stavropoulos have been married for 36 years. They have 2 adult children, Constantine and Chryssoula. Fr. John has been a Greek Orthodox priest for 35 years, spending many of those years here in Columbus at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral on High street. Elaine was a music teacher graduating from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. She taught in the Cincinnati Public Schools and the Rye New York School System. After Fr. John became a priest, the two worked together in various parishes across the US. In January 2022, their life changed when Fr. John suffered an ischemic stroke. Reaching out to many friends and family for help, Elaine remembered a dear friend and Chryssoula's speech therapist, Bridget Chapman. Bridget shared about a new clinic for swallowing headed by Nicole Wiksten. The Stavropoulos' have been attending the clinic weekly for the past year. A great help for Fr. John's recovery!!!
