The AuD program is expanding to include more vestibular assessment and management content in the curriculum. Additionally, vestibular clinical services will now be offered to patients. With funding support from the College of Arts and Sciences, state-of-the-art vestibular assessment equipment was purchased. This equipment will not only be instrumental in training students in vestibular test protocols but will also expand clinical services to include: Videonystagmography (VNG), video Head Impulse Testing (vHIT), Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potentials (VEMP), Auditory Brainstem Response testing (ABR), and Electrocochleography (ECoG). Jodi Baxter, AuD, Clinical Associate Professor, obtained Vestibular Management and Rehabilitation certification from the American Institute of Balance this summer and will begin performing clinical vestibular assessments in October 2023.
Symptoms of dizziness, vertigo, and imbalance can significantly impact the lives of affected persons. Assessment of balance and vestibular function, interpretation of results, and management of treatment, are important components of an audiologist’s scope of practice. AuD faculty and staff are excited to provide a greater breadth of educational and clinical experiences to our students while continuing to offer high quality clinical services to those in our community.
