Swallowing Disorders Research and Clinical Team presented at NeuroNights
Drs. Cagla Kantarcigil and Loni Arrese and Mrs. Nicole Wiksten were invited to present at OSU’s NeuroNights workshop organized by the Chronic Brain Injury (CBI) Program. NeuroNights is an online workshop series that builds wellness skills, community, and connections for survivors and families affected by brain injury and other neurological conditions. Their talk focused on swallowing disorders in individuals affected by brain injury. They also provided valuable information about community resources available to support those affected by brain injury.
Dr. Kantarcigil recently gave an invited talk titled “Respiratory-Swallow Coordination: Function, Treatment, and Future Directions” at the 26th Annual Kathy Chester Memorial Seminar.
Organized by OhioHealth, this event is an annual educational seminar for medical SLPs across Ohio. Her talk focused on the interconnection between the respiration and swallowing systems and assessment and treatment approaches aimed at optimizing coordination between these two vital functions. Additionally, Dr. Kantarcigil highlighted her OSU DegluTech Lab’s work on emerging technologies that hold promise for advancing care in this critical area.
The OSU Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic provides TWO support group opportunities for those that have or care for others that have dysphagia.
Dysphagia is a disorder described as difficulty swallowing or moving food and liquids from the mouth to the stomach.
